Hi. There is an LPE Tool in InkScape dev. Version 1.3. It is represented by a compass icon

I cannot find any documentation on its function snd various usages.

Is this tool intended to just measure or show distances of selected objects and paths?

When selecting this tool on an object. A very tiny text appears which I assume is a measurement. Is there a way to enlarge the visible text size?

Also at the bottom of the screen is  this message: "Choose a subtool from the toolbbar."

Could someone explain the its uses and applications and any potential options?

    Thank you for your help.

    Moini gave a hint: https://inkscape.org/forums/questions/how-to-use-this-tool/#c54559

Thank you, Polygon ... the response given to me seems to be something other than what I asked about. I followed the link given and the "hint" but still am not clear on what this tool is to do or how to explore any options with it.

Moini's answer states this is not going to be in the released version and yet it is showing in the dev. Version of 1.3. Then Paddy Cad's answer says it does a mirroring action but that seems to apply to an LPE and not to this "LPE Tool".

If there are more clarified answers I would appreciate knowing about it.

Thank you and see the screen shots I provided

As I understand Moini´s reply it´s just an experiment - not a tool ready to roll.

Thank you for clarifying this, Polygon.

There is so much to explore in 1.3 and unknown combinations when using the various Tools and LPEs and Extensions.

There are likely to be any number of features in the dev builds that will not be in the next release, nor possibly any release.

For a better (but not certain) advance look at the next release, the 1.3 Alpha0 is available for public testing.

Do not test on any mission critical documents.

I've re-titled and moved this convo to more appropriate location.

Thank you, Tyler. Even the 1.3 Alpha0 version just shared has that "LPE Tool" showing. Have a great day.

Hi again. Not wanting to to be dense nor troublesome.

This same tool is in the 1.3 alpha version, released for testing. Should it be ignored? Is it basically just "filler" in this alpha version and not expected to "work" until a later release? If it is indeed expected to be functional now, what is its purpose and how would I use it?

    Thank you for clarifying more.

I believe this LPE Tool is experimental or at least incomplete. The tool isn't very large and states it is "a tool containing subtools for editing LPEs"

This tool is very interesting because in 10 years, it's not been edited a single time except when a developer is refactoring some grand formulation of code in many tools at the same time.

So no one has worked on it, very few people know about it or what it does. It can probably be removed to be honest.

If you do spend time with it, try and break it, see what it does when you click on things. Randomly if possible. And report back. Developers would like to know too.

    Thank you very much, Martin.

I was mistaken in thinking  that no functionality works with this tool. There is some "wonkiness" to it ... yet it does offer some helpful functionality.

There is functionality. I was looking in the wrong place (location) for the mini-toolbar that appears.

I am ☆ guessing ☆ but I think this tool accesses experimental Path Effects ... if they are added to the Inkscape folder (proper location for such Path Effects).

The graphic below shows how I managed to use this LPE Tool.

Hopefully, it will aid any developers and fellow Inkscapers to utilize this tool.

    Thank you.

    Hi everyone,

I recently started using the dev version of LPE hiTool and had a few questions regarding its usage. I hope someone here can help me out or provide some insights. Here are my queries:

    1. How do I install and set up LPE hiTool in the dev version? Are there any specific requirements or dependencies that I need to take care of?

    2. Are there any detailed documentation or tutorials available for LPE hiTool in the dev version? I would like to explore its features and understand how to make the most out of it.

    3. What are the major differences between the dev version of LPE hiTool and the stable version? Are there any new features or improvements that I should be aware of?

    4. Is LPE hiTool in the dev version suitable for production environments, or is it primarily meant for testing and experimentation purposes?

    5. Are there any known issues or limitations in the dev version of LPE hiTool that I should be aware of? Any workarounds or tips to overcome them?

I appreciate any assistance or guidance you can provide regarding these questions. If you have any personal experiences or tips on using LPE hiTool in the dev version, please feel free to share them as well.

This is the human person Hum. When I first began with this topic, I mistakenly typed the LPE Tool as "LPE hiTool". A typo. Notice the previous input refers to it also with the same mis-spelling repeatedly. Of late. I have received several AI or chatbot fake messages. I suppose this is done in the hope I will take a nibble and follow them somewhere unwanted and not good. I suspect this previous "post" was generated by a "bot" also. Seems they multiply and try such stuff often. If I am wrong about this previous post above, I apologize.Thank you.

Yes this appears to be a chatbot. Most of them get quickly banned, but some we let through to see if there is a motive to their activity.

Thanks for commenting on the artificial appearance of the chatbot's message. Feel free to comment-on  and/or flag any comments you find suspicious.
