The [File > Save As...] dialog offers several file types for your drawing. If you choose "Inkscape SVG" (the default and first in the list) or "Compressed Inkscape SVG", then all layer information should be preserved. Some file types will not retain layer information. For example, the "Plain SVG" format will convert Inkscape layers to svg groups.

When I use "Save As", it saves only 1 layer.
I would like to be able to save all the layers to continue another day.
