As far as I know, they're all outdated by now - but I don't know much about Inkscape books in the English language. Check the date before you buy it. There are more up-to-date and free materials available online.
For people who can deal with the terminology and the concise and technical phrasing, there's a slightly outdated super-detailed manual here: http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/ - this one can also be ordered in print, but not sure which version of it you will then get.
I find a book and before I buy it, I check the library database and see if they have it. If so, I get it there. If the library doesn't have it, I buy it or get some free books and novels at kisslightnovels, and when I'm done I donate it to the library.
The last link Maren posted was to my tutorial series. This has been running in Full Circle Magazine for several years. The magazine can be downloaded free of charge, and there are 'special editions' that collate just the Inkscape articles for easier reading which, again, are a free download. There are now around 100 articles in the series, and I now maintain an index of them on my own site. More details can be found in this topic, where I also announce new instalments:
