Beginners' Questions Problem with Adys font

    Hi all!

A little bit of a backstory- I've created some prints for my children's room for home use. Few friends got interested too but as the prints were made in PPT- the quality was awful. And this is how 2 days ago I got Linux and Inkscape in just a day. 😀

I'm Bulgarian therefore I use Cyrillic, Adys font to be more specific- which is a specially designed font that makes it easy for people with mild to moderate dyslexia to read.

And here comes the problem- the font is successfully imported to Inkscape but some of the letters appear different (attaching screenshot).

    1. Is there any possibility to write in another program, copy/paste to Inkscape without quality loss? Or fixing/vectorizing the letters? This would be tons of work copy/pasting and adjusting but I really need them to appear as in other programs, e.g. Word. (Because this is what they are supposed to look like)

    2. Is there any way to fix the letters in Inkscape?

    Thank you all in advance!

It looks like a bug to me.

Please file a report on the GitLab tracker. https://inkscape.org/forums/beyond/how-to-report-bugs-or-request-new-features/

    Hi Stani,

I suggest fixing the letters in Inkscape, as it would make it more convenient for your future use of Inkscape and may help others. You can follow @TylerDurden's suggestion to check if this is a bug.

As for your current problem, you can write your text in another program such as PPT or Word, export the file as a PDF, and then import the PDF file into Inkscape. Just remember to choose the "Poppler/Cairo" import option (the "Internal import" option will import the text in PDF as text object). In this way, your font will appear in Inkscape exactly as it did in PPT or Word.

Thank you both for your replies!

I will try to report a bug now. (Also, gonna try "Poppler/Cairo" import, whatever that means :) )

The funny thing is that when I write any text in Inkscape (you saw which and how letters change) and copy/paste to PPT, they appear correctly.

A little more digging reveals that there may be an issue with Inkscape accessing type table "aalt".

The message in the Font dialog states the table is not included.

The glyph desired is unincode U+0432

FontForge shows that glyph in the "aalt" table (subtable?):

Feel free to provide a link to this discussion in the bug report.

As a workaround you can type the text in PowerPoint/Writer/Impress and export the document as a PDF, then import that into Inkscape. The text will show up as paths and you can copy them to your Inkscape document.
