If you'd like to post work-in-progress artwork, create a thread in the "Work in Progress" section of the forum, and post your images there, with the title "November 2021 Flower Challenge WIP - [your artwork title]". When finished, post the final graphic to this thread.
This challenge will run from 16 November 2021 - 30 November 2021. There are no winners. These challenges are intended to inspire and encourage you to share your work.
You're encouraged to discuss and offer feedback/constructive criticism to others, but please be respectful.
Most importantly, be creative, give your best, and have fun!
It's a nice reminder though that a flower made for the challenge can be used as an avatar, both here and elsewhere, if you need some extra motivation to join in...
That's lovely, Corneja! Thanks for joining in. And don't worry about spamming. You're welcome to post more of your work if you like. We'd love to see them!
@cornejavectorial Well, that is something special! What it lacks in density it gains in line work and overall ambience. Yes, feel free to post others. 👍✏️
I'm more engineer than artist and my first passion flower was too geometric and symmetric. The second attempt added random scaling and rotation and roughness to yield a more natural organic form. I haven't really tackled colouring and lighting but the liberal use of clones means that I can experiment quickly. And I need a backdrop. So this is more WIP than final product but I'm submitting it now because I don't know if I'll have spare time to work on this.
P.S. The image renders better in Inkscape than here in the forum.
@Paddy_CAD While geometric in nature (nothing wrong with that), a detailed breakdown and a clear, recognisable depiction of the passion flower. Nice work. Thank you for your entry!
@mrks9 Good question. For these challenges, we would love to see what you can finish using Inkscape. I think reasonable exceptions to this could be using a bitmap image as a texture or tracing a bitmap image (assuming you have the rights to the images). If it helps, take your artwork as far as you can using Inkscape, then post it to Work in Progress, I am happy to help with ideas/processes to finish your work in Inkscape if you feel you would benefit?
This is my very first post to this forum. I haven't used inkscape for quite a while now, but I'm using it since many years. 15 years on and off? Not sure. I preferred it over AI right after getting used to it. Never wanted to go back.
On Mastodon @AlgotRuneman showed up with this inkscape challenge and his lily. Beautiful, it seems very realistic except for the very green stamens.
@pacer awww... that spidey! love the aloha style flowers. They are on point. So is the color range.
@Paddy_CAD I agree with the others, flowers are geometrical beings. Many of them are at least mirrored on a vertical axis (like orchids). Most are symmetrical around a center (I lack the english term, punktsymmetrisch in german) So the mechanical geometrical approach works well for most flowers.
@cornejavectorial your cosmic flower is beautiful. it would work great as a blacklight piece, too.
@inklinea I like the subtle layering with gradients on the petals and the center of the flower.
I'm not sure if I uploaded the image correctly... everybody els has a thumbnail image, mine is big in the preview...
So this is all made in inkscape. I used two of my own photos as a background. All the rest was made for this image.
Completely new for me is this calligraphy tool that really works like a charm with my wacom. I more or less hit it accidentally, and realized that it is now possible to write smoothly in inkscape. Very cool. Pressure sensitivity is great, it almost feels like a brush pen. I'm amazed. I will definitely have to try out more with it.
@BabaJaga Your artwork is interesting. There is a lot to see, while your composition still looks tidy and well thought out. Good use of background image to add depth to the graphic. Thank you for your kind words and for your entry. (We have more challenges scheduled so keep an eye out).
Pleased to see all the entries for this month's challenge and all the encouragement. The next challenge is a festive one and begins tomorrow. I hope to see you all there. Spread the word!
I like the vikyr dandelion ( we call them 'timeclocks' in that state where they have gone to seed ) - it looks like something a printing press could produce ( or risograph)
@doctormo I am from Spain, and the political images I make I don't share here, I don't think this is the right forum. Although I guess that can't be completely avoided 😁 I hope nothing offensive anyway 😊
@mrks9 Nothing offensive. The rose is the symbol of one of the two main parties in the UK, many within it are pretending to have that party's politics, so your image is accidentally appropriate. 😅
Stunning work @m1981. You are very talented! You are welcome to post after the date. Have you seen our most recent challenge? I'd be interested to see your entry.
We challenge you to draw a flower/flowers with Inkscape, and to post your finished artwork below. Everyone is invited to join in!
All entries to be submitted by 30 November 2021.
Please do spread the word!
#inkscapechallenge
Also, there are more challenges to come (next one starts 1st December 2021), so put it in your calendar.
Instructions/Information
We look forward to seeing your entries.
Woohoo! Looking forward to this!
@z3z - looks like you've already submitted an entry ;-)
Hehe getting a jump start on everyone else! 😆
It's a nice reminder though that a flower made for the challenge can be used as an avatar, both here and elsewhere, if you need some extra motivation to join in...
Wow, flowers seem hard to me. Hopefully I'll find the time.
My Entry :)
Nice work @inklinea. Thanks for leading the way. Top points for a speedy submission!
I was born for this! I love drawing flowers in Inkscape! I've done many already, but I'll post only one because I don't want to spam 💙🐦

Simple flower, simpler leaves, still happy to participate
@AlgotRuneman Beautiful Lily! The petals are quite realistic. Thank you for your entry. :)
Algot Runeman - petals nice subtle pink colouring with the red accents and nice stamen.
Corneja Vectorial - I like your cosmic flower - maybe that is how the big bang started :)

Hi, One question, for these challenges, it's possible to use Gimp (for example) to process the work done with Inkscape?

@pacer Okay, thanks 🤙

@BabaJaga I love it 😍, both the composition and the color palette. Thanks for sharing 👏
A local medicinal flower. Used Rotate Copies Path Effect
Paddy_CAD:
If an 18th Century botanist had Inkscape, I think that is what they would make !
I like it.
a little simple though :)
Very nice! I like the red rose a lot. I could see that in a business logo.
Here is my entry. First I tried to do it in a realistic way, but it didn't work and I opted for this other style 🥀 😊
I applaud the nice works shared here. Very creative.
I don't know if mine will "count" for this challenge, as they are all imaginary and not "realistic".
(By the way, Rotate Copies can make some interesting results.)
@mrks9 Excellent work. Looks great! I like the structure of the petals.
@ken10001000 We have no preference for realism. Great concepts!
Thank you both for your entries.
@pacer Thank you so much, and also for the good suggestions and for creating this space to challenge us👌
Oh, there are some cool entries here..
I like the rose in its simplicity. and the painted rose, which I think is awesome.
Here is my small doodle.
This challenge has blossomed into a garden of great images. Lots of participation, too.
I create some calla lily, with reference on my sketch a few weeks ago
Hi! Nice challenge, many inspirational entries here! :)
@vikyr Nice detail on the head of the dandelion.
@nekostrade Looks very smooth. Good choice of colours.
Thank you both for your entries. :)

@mrks9 I can't help but feel your images is a little political (if you were from the UK) 😅

@doctormo I understand. I' d been worried for a moment 😁
Challenge closed, but nevermind, it's just for fun !
Stunning work @m1981. You are very talented! You are welcome to post after the date.

m1981 - Very impressive.
I think this is not your first time drawing a flower !
@m1981 Wonderful work! Thanks for sharing 👏
