I'm a novice user of Inkscape (I believe), using it to design projects around the house. While designing a landscape project, I found it would be helpful to get a hold of a library of basic irrigation symbols. Since this is likely to be a one time endeavor, I didn't want to spend a lot of time acquiring or designing them. (I'm already spending more time than I was intending by posting here. 😉)
As I search the web, I'm not finding anything that is what I was hoping to find. Most of the sets I was able to find are more graphical images, not ones for a basic schematic. And when I found schematic symbols, they were either proprietary (not free), or in a form that I couldn't easily use and they weren't in a vector format Inkscape could import.
Is this a situation other users have encountered? Am I overlooking an easier way to do this?
I've done this for piping schematics but not irrigation. If you find a (free) resource with these vector shapes, you could build your own symbol library. Open the Symbols dialog [Object > Symbols...]. Select the shape you want then [+] adds it to your symbol library. [click+drag] symbols from the library to add them to your drawing.
Be nice to find some architectural or even electronic symbols.that were actually made in Inkscape. Wasn't even aware of the symbol capabilities in Inkscape until recently and I have been using Inkscape since v0.48. In my search - find plenty of bitmap symbols but like you I don't want to spend the time vectorizing them.
I have my own uses for the symbol capability in Inkscape and I use it daily. A real time saver.
@Paddy_Cad: Thanks for the tip. I did take a stab at using Trace Bitmap on a few but the quality of the images wasn't sufficient. Since this is likely a one time project, it's not worth taking a lot of time to create a symbol library. Guess there's not enough demand for them in the svg world. Plenty of stuff in the CAD world, and for a price.
@CelticOneDesign: I don't know when the Symbol Library function was introduced. But as I posted to @Paddy_CAD, it will take too much time to build my own library.
@Tyler: Thanks for the pointer. I read that post and followed up but the site doesn't have any plumbing or irrigation symbols.

Thanks! I learn so much browsing this forum.

Here's a completed electrical symbols library, in a compressed (zip) file: https://alpha.inkscape.org/vectors/www.inkscapeforum.com/viewtopicaf6e.html?t=31851#p96451
Comments in that topic on how to make it available to all documents.
