I just install the appimage of 1.2 for Linux.

I'm not getting a splash screen nor a welcome screen. Launching goes straight to the main screen. Is there a  setting to change this?

Yes - find it the Inkscape Preferences to enable it back again. It should be on by default.

It's on by default, but disabled if the the welcome screen is closed using the escape button. A bit confusing in my opinion.
