Okay I have attached a butterfly silhouette and a blue script. What I wish to do, is cut the butterfly out of the blue script. These are the actual (or duplicates really) of the files I am using.
I try cutting with the butterfly on top and I try every single one of those options and I get not a single slice, so I reversed it with the butterfly on the bottom and tried every single one of the cutting options and still nothing.
Could it be because the blue script is XML? Is it even XML?
I don't know why I have such trouble with cutting paths. I'm not even talking about these files. I can have a circle that I want to cut out of a square and no matter what order I select them, what order they are in the layers, no matter what, I have trouble. I guess I just cannot wrap my mind around it or something.
Any help you can offer, I would really appreciate.
May I ask where this file comes from? Any shapes color is labeled "Unset" - which makes it impossible to select one and then "Select same" to combine these. Groups don´t work here.
Usually steps were: Select one shape of the text - then "select same->Fill color" - then Path->Combine - this resulting shape can then used in Path operations.
Of course you may ask! It comes from a scrapbooking site and is for personal use only, which is my intent. She uses photoshop elements, if that is of any help.
Now when you say combine, you do understand that I want to use the butterfly as a cookie cutter and cut that shape out of the script? It's not really combining, it's just a cut out. It may not matter though what it is.
So I need to set the fill colors? I would guess that the butterfly needs to match the script page (blue)?
All good. If it´s just for visualise options you can select the butterfly - hit "D" for the dropper tool and click on a blue region. I´m not sure the butterfly will be really visible - perhaps add a stroke to it:

Sorry if I'm asking too many questions.

Right! You are WONDERFUL! I was hoping you'd be the one to reply. Phew! 😉 I'll post back if it's still a problem.
Glad I got it. 😂
