Calling beta testers! Inkscape v1.4 beta3 is ready for download. Thanks to everyone who helped with reporting bugs. Keep the feedback coming.

Compared to the last beta release, this release fixes a crash on startup experienced by Windows users, and includes some new backports and fixes:

• Translations for Simplified Chinese, Croatian, Hungarian, Slovenian and Italian are updated.
• The Windows native file dialog is restored.
• Some margins and button sizes are fixed to match the previous version.
• The marker rendering order is fixed.
• Typing full-width characters into spinbuttons no longer crash Inkscape.

There are also other build fixes and string additions in this beta release.

When testing, please try out the major upcoming features, such as:

• Filter Gallery: it has never been so easy to find the best filter for your needs! This new dialog features previews, categories and search. 
• Modular grids & improved axonometric grids: set the grid angle by ratio for isometric designs and use modular grids to plan layouts and make icons!
• Swatches dialog and palette file handling improved: quick access to dialog layout controls, search for colors, and open different palette file formats!
• Unified font browser preview: when activated in the preferences, use it to quickly browse through your font collection. Try it out and give your feedback!
• Customizable handles: Power users with CSS knowledge can now customize the styling and basic shape of all the handles!
• Fast image clipping with the Shape Builder: raster graphics can now be clipped into multiple sections using the Shape Builder.

What's new compared to 1.4 beta?

Compared to the first beta release, the second (and third) beta contains:

• A number of new strings: Strings not meant for translation were removed, some translator comments have been updated, and new strings were created. If you're a translator, please revise your .po files.
• Unified Font Browser updates: The "All fonts" label is now hidden, a new "Font Scaling Factor" slider is added to avoid font clipping. and the settings are now in the Interface > Window category, font filtering works better.
• Build fixes: The extensions and lib2geom submodules now point to newer commits to fix build errors, building with Poppler newer than 24.05.0 now works, and the libsoup dependency is removed.
• Dash icon theme: A new icon theme is included in this beta release.
• PDF export fixes: PDF exports now only contains items visible on the page, and anchor (link) tags now have more accurate click areas.
• Help menu update: The Help menu is updated to categorize the links and tutorials better.  * New About Screen integrated: The contest winning image by Inkonic is now part of the release.
• Other features and bugfixes: A number of UI alignment issues are fixed, some crashes have been fixed, the Export dialog UI has been adjusted for clarity, various page-related bugs have been fixed, the Spray tool is now faster, and several translations have been updated.
