Is it possible to create a voronoi diagram within the boundaries of a shape/path? It seems as the extension always uses a rectangular boundary box.

No, but you can use [Path > Cut Path] to trim the lines to any boundary.

Will a Voronoi Pattern Fill perhaps work for you?

Also, similar to Polygon's idea, you can use a clip and/or a mask with any desired shape to focus on or utilize any portion(s) you wish from your original Vironoi result.

Thanks, I experimented a bit and I can work with these answers. BTW am I correct the Voronoi Pattern in Inkscape 1.3 changed to a Voronoi Diagram extension? This one seems to use elements as seeds to generate the pattern, which gives more freedom in designing/tweaking a pattern. But takes some more time to create.

    I can't comment. It's an extension that I don't use so I don't know how it's evolved.
