I absolutely love Inkscape, and have been using it for about 6 months now, taking video training throughout that time. However I was wondering if anyone could suggest another imaging tool (Not Gimp) that is useful for making quick changes to images. Microsoft paint is very primitive, however I like it because I can just get into an image edit it quicker using their eraser tool, and painting tools. The issue with MS paint though is that I don't think it preserves images very well once you save them the quality isn't as nice as more upscale tools like Inkscape.

I find the eraser tool in Inkscape a headache to work with a majority of the time. Also drawing lines is an unpleasant experience in Inkscape. I know nothing about Photoshop and do not want to use it.

Anyway, if anyone feels my pain and has an idea on an alternate tool, please share. Thanks.

It sounds as though you are seeking an image editor at the bitmap level. Inkscape is a vector editor. Your reference to GIMP and Photoshop are supporting this assessment. See if you can locate a suitable program by using the terms "bitmap editor" along with your operating system. If you require that the program be free, include that word in your search terms. I never learned to use Photoshop but started with PaintShop Pro years ago. It's not as popular as Photoshop, but does what I require, although not free.

https://krita.org/en/  Krita is great with the graphics tablet, better than gimp! It has more brushes than gimp and they are better manageable ... the only flaw is the align distribute which is not there for rasta graphics, and there is no want to add it for now. .https://krita-artists.org/t/inquiry-align-distribute-raster-or-similar/43983

For windows, Paint.net is my go-to app for basic image editing. The interface is much simpler than Gimp or Photoshop. I haven't used Pinta but I'm told it's a good alternative for non-windows systems.

Not free, but so much cheaper than PS. PSP even has limited vectoring abilities too. Support was much better when JASC owned it but Corel has restructured it pretty well. I use it frequently and sometimes in conjunction with Inkscape. It just irks me that it doesn't support svg files. When I bring this up in their forum, they get ugly, saying "THIS IS NOT A VECTORING PROGRAM!" Then why does it have vectors? 😡 All I want is to export an svg so I can work on it in Inkscape.

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread. I just wanted to comment on it.
