Hi, I've been wondering if there is a way to draw custom shapes in a repeating manner. What I mean is imagine vines with thorns or leaves and use it as a custom shape. So when you draw the lines it draws the vines with thorns/ leaves repeatedly.

By using "inkscape seamless pattern" as the search terms, I was able to find many links of value. One of them, from designbundles.net indicates that there is an extension that is part of Inkscape. The linked page presents a step-by-step use of the extension. In the past, I had a need for a seamless pattern and did not have the extension option. Many of the links returned in the above search describes the manual method.

If you are seeking a "cloning brush" option, I have no experience or results to offer.

Yes a cloning brush would be a good name for what I seek.

Have you tried a search using those terms? Cloning objects appears to be an easy matter, but I've not found cloning brushes. There is a stamping feature that allows you to create duplicates (stamps) by dragging and while holding the mouse button down, press and release the space bar.

Found the answer in path effects. Here's the tutorial for anyone if needed.

You can take the Bézier tool and use Shape: from Clipboard and alter the appearance by going Path-Path-Effects which will present you with the settings for Pattern along Path right away. Same effect different approach:
