Beyond the Basics Fillet a corner or between two objects?

Every now and then I realize that the effect I want to achieve is something better produced in AutoCAD than inkscape.

Right now I'm hurting for a way to create a fillet between two intersecting curves.

Mathematically it would be a circle that is tangent to two curves with a specified radius, and then trimming that circle to just the section between the tangents, and then fusing the two curves to that new curve.

Is there any such tool available in inkscape?

I have two objects I can fuse with "union" but I want to soften the edges where they touch.  I could start moving the corner node, but that will bend the contours of the shape.  I want to keep that contour but just fill in a little bit evenly.

Hi. Have you tried drawing a stroke segment from one tangent point to another point on the two key curves, and then using the Live Path Effect Ellupse by Points?

You have various options with this Path Effect, including arcs and closed ellipses. On the generated result, you could then use the Fillet option you mentioned. Experiment a while and see if this moves you forward or solves your problem.

Ooh, that corners path effect looks exactly like what I want!

    Thank you!
