Forum Testing testing my double profile

Somehow I logged in yesterday. I changed my username, and now I have a split personality account.

So, being the old McRoth, I just wanted to be Kirstie.

I can befriend myself! How strange is that. But is not possible to log in with the accoutn from yesterday.... 🤔

Yeah, that 2 name thing drives me crazy.  Whenever a website wants 2 names, you never know when (or how) they're going to use which name.  And no 2 websites seem to do it the same way.  So I never give 2 names - I either give one name, or if they won't accept that, I give the same name twice.

Or do you mean that you actually have 2 different accounts?

I see you have 1 account with 2 names (Kirstie and McRoth) under a gmail address.  I don't think you can have 2 accounts under the same email address. But you can have 2 names  😕

This is brynn with my regular user account (non-moderator account).  I was just curious how it works.  I've never really formated this profile, I just registered once, with one name.

So you can see in this screenshot that the name I registered with (bbrynnn) appears to be the secondary name in my profile, even though it's the name I registered with.  To me, the registration name should be the primary name.

I think this may be the root of all the name confusion that we've been seeing.

    Hi Brynn,

I had an old account here with the username McRoth, with my gmail account. I changed the first name to Kirstie, and after that couldn't log in anymore.
I hit the reset my password option, but that email took a long time to arrive.
So, logged in under gmail, waiting for the reset email, I think I pressed somewhere on log in with my google account...?
Then I suddenly had a second account, with the same email address. So yes, that is possible!
They both have the same first name now.
    😄

The biggest problem here indeed seems to be that the forum actively uses the 'first name' rather than the 'username'.

But you know, I 'll just leave the old account alone for now.
It feels a little bit like crawling through that tiny door in the movie Being John Malkowitsch, where he enters his own head.
Don't know if you saw that movie, but that is strange, if you start to befriend yourself here with the same name and profile picture..

Oh, It seems that the two accounts have merged into one somehow?
That is good! Somehow it is resolved! Yay!

Problem remains that the unique username is not actively shown next to posts.
But the non-unique first name is being shown. (I think, I'm not completely sure)

Yes, that's what I meant.  The smaller name on the right, in the profile, is the name you register with.  And I think should be the primary or public name.  But it looks like the First Name/Last Name that you can enter in Personal Details section of Settings becomes the large name.  And it's the larger name that is used in the forum.  I would expect the 2nd name that you add would be the private name.  But here, it's the public name.

I'm not sure what the google account means.  I've never used that, so I don't know what effect it has.

Kirstie, congrats on creating your own doppleganger! (unsure of the spelling).   I finally amended my first name to also be my username.  I mean why have a username if you can't use it....   I do think it's probably a good idea for the site to have a 'real' name on file, and just not use it publicly.  I don't recognize people from the other 2 forums due to using the first/last name. ugh.  I'm old, I can't remember user names, much less real names!
