I am trying to create a label. I am using , Area cropped and Bezier cropped images. When I go print, only partial images come out. For instance I have created a page with 2 layers, an image of a bottle and an image of a bunch of grapes overlapping. the image is central on the page area but when I print only 1/2 the bottle is printed, Anybody know what is happening?
Instead, use a backer to export and print from there.
Go to Document Properties
Deselect the show page border item
close the document properties tab
create a new layer under your art layers - title it backer
lock your art layers
I am assuming you are printing standard paper size
create a rectangle 8.5 X 11 inches in size - give it a white fill and no border = your page
create another rectangle 8 X10.5 inches in size - give it no fill and a black stroke 0.25 ? = the bleed space within your page - remember, printers require a margin - it might be smaller or larger depending on your abilities - 1/4" off each border might be safest standard
center the second rectangle within the first - group them together
you have just made your backer - to simplify seeing it, use document properties again and change the color of your workspace to something like a photographer's 20% grey.
scale your rectangle so that it encompasses your work - place it XY as appropriate for your composition on page - don't worry if your art goes over your backer - either enlarge your backer - or - the hang overs will be visually cut off and not render out as part of your export.
when you enlarge your backer - ALWAYS restrain your scaling to keep it proportional - your backer does not need to be 8.5 x 11 - it just needs to be that proportion - the export process will require you enter a specific pixel count - that is where your rectangle will become a page sized item
when you want to export - lock all of your art layers - unlock the backer layer - which is always the lowest layer in your stack
tap on your work to activate the backer
export png - export selection - make sure the hide all except selected box is UNCHECKED
name it meaningful and export
either print from the png itself - OR - pull the png into a document program and print from there
if you can see the margin line on your printed page - either ungroup the backer layers - and -
enlarge the inner bleed space
or
put the page on a sublayer and the bleed on another - after positioning your backer and bleed to ensure everything will print after export - either hide or lock the bleed space layer
remember, you need to know your output pixel counts - do the calculations and do not rely on inscape to convert in the export dialog - if you need 8.5 inches at XDPI - enter that calculation as your output pixel count - the dpi count in the export dialog is irrelevant - what is relevant is the pixel count that you need for the print XY
include this backer layer group and your pixel calculations in all of your drawings - make it part of your graphic standards and work flow - you will be much happier if you do.
this process just to print something seems absolutely ridiculous. now in 2024 is there no other way to easily print? I think its time to find a new art program
Hi all ,

NEVER print out of Inkscape !
DO NOT DO IT!
Instead, use a backer to export and print from there.
Go to Document Properties
Deselect the show page border item
close the document properties tab
create a new layer under your art layers - title it backer
lock your art layers

Many thanks Nelchai.
I only understood part of what you wrote but I get the message that I don't print out of Inkscape.
In between time I have found that I can save the created image to a pdf doc which I can successfully print.
Now I will go back and try to understand your process.
regards jeff.
