I was wondering which software would be great for doing animation by collaborating with Inkscape
@tnev
It depends on what kind of animation you have in mind.
You can create short animated images with inkscape and a notepad (would suggest notepad++ on windows)
Synfig studio or enve are good tools for creating character movements using armatures.
The ultimate tool would be blender -then inkscape wouldn't really be necessary?
It can animate freehand sketches within a 3D environment and gaining popularity rapidly in that area.
Still. It's not just a single tool but multiple fields of a profession.
From storywriting, storyboard, creating first sketches, characters, background images,
creating the animation, cutting the raw material, adding vfx, adding sounds/music and whatnot.
Also just guessing you are after free/open source programs for every part of the process?
For cutting I'm using davinci resolve which is also able to produce somekind of animation.
The sky is the limit.

I found out that Inkscape along with Opentoonz can be helpful.
You can make drawings in Inkscape, save as .png's, open the drawings in GIMP and set into numbered layers (1, 2, 3,...) and export as a GIF file, with "Animate" selected, to create an animated GIF.
