Any chance of getting a message, when I post a new message, that while I was typing, someone else posted a new message (in this same thread)?
I just went through a back and forth discussion where someone posted right before I did, and they were answering my next comment before I posted it. So it's confusing to read through it.
It's a very convenient feature, but I understand if it's too fancy for this forum. But it can't hurt to ask.
Does any other forum software have this? I've not seen this functionality before anywhere.
Also I'm struggling to think of a way to implement this, that's not just as confusing (if not more confusing).
What could work is if the forum software brings you back to the first unread post after posting yourself, which would be the other persons post in the scenario you describe and one's own post in the usual case. (Edit: It brings you at the very least to your own post already, not sure about the last unread post)
Yes, the forum at inkscapecommunity has it. When you post, and someone else has posted in between your loading of the page, and your sending of the comment, it gives you a chance to read the new post and to review your own one.
I'm not positive 100%, but I'm pretty sure InkscapeForum does too. It's a native feature (not added via mod, or even optional).
Essentially, I guess it refreshes the page while holding your newly typed message in the editor, and while displaying the info "while you were typing, someone else has posted new message to this thread" (or something like that). Then you can read the newly posted message, and edit yours if you like, before clicking Submit for the 2nd time.
