I have a faded orangish color that I want to duplicate and make a little bit lighter.
I couldn't copy a color in the Swatch window or Fill/Stroke window.
I had to copy (write down) the RGB values from the orange color, fill a new shape with yellow from the palette on the bottom of the main window and then adjust the RGB values for that yellow until I got the light er faded orange color I wanted. I used the copied RGB values as a guide.
Is there another way to do this?
I am using version 1.2.1.
I don't use the Swatches very often. But, there are times when I want to save colors and make them easily accessible. I am thinking making a separate layer with squares and filling them with the colors I use in a project might be a better option.
Instead of trying to work with the Swatches I created a new layer called "Swatches". I created squares, filled them with the colors I am using, labeled them by creating individual text with the Text Tool and then aligned the objects. This seems to work better than the Inkscape Swatches.

It's possible to save the existing colours being used to a gimp palette.
File>Save a Copy and choose gimp palette file.
You will then have a .gpl file.
This extension can import .gpl files as palette squares just above the canvas.
Might save time.

Ignore all the other options, just use the settings in the attached picture.
Swatches are also handy because the can be altered and any objects assigned with the swatch will update.
Maybe a .gpl to swatch would be good.
