20 years of Inkscape is not the end of the journey but a huge milestone. The new version is built on the foundations of the previous versions and is becoming better with each iteration. It's a shining example of what is possible in open source software when a great team of dedicated developers gets together and works their magic. I tried to showcase what can be done in Inkscape with simple shapes and without fancy drawing skills. Using only a limited set of tools to create a consistent yet rich look. The piece relies heavily on gradients, tapered and power stroke path effects on simple lines and basic shapes [circles and rectangles were the starting point for most elements]. Organizing a design of this complexity was key. The improved layers and objects panel was a huge help in keeping the 2500+ objects that make this scene under control. Creative Growth - 20 years of Inkscape Enabling creatives to grow their imagination, go wild, and be creative. I played around a lot with layer blend modes, path effects [taper and powerstroke], blurs, the spiro effects on the pen tool, clones, and Boolean operations. What started as a quick test [while stuck on another idea] grew wild and I went a bit overboard... but it's just too much fun to work in Inkscape. Hello I'm Milad Moosavi and I'm happy that I can participate in this version contest. I do a lot of sketches about the idea of looking back at 20 years of inkscape and finally came up with the idea of time travel. these two characters in my work use a portal to go back in time when the first version of inkscape is about to be released. I wanted to convey the idea that Inkscape has come a long way in the past 20 years, and that we should be proud of what we have achieved. Through hard work and dedication, now we have a tool for artists and designers that is capable of creating stunning works of art. Looking back at where we started, it's amazing to see how far we have come. If you like to see my works you can find me on my website: miladmusav.com or on instagram or twitter with @miladmusav I hope you enjoy my submission and thank you for the opportunity to participate in this contest.

Inspired by this year's theme of 'Growth,' I've visualised Inkscape as a majestic tree, symbolizing its vibrant creativity. Around it, the awesome users, the ever-dedicated vectors team, vigilant bug-wranglers, developers, and supportive sponsors gather, exchanging ideas and inspiring us all. Can you spot them in this scene? Together, they cultivate Inkscape, a space where imagination flourishes and artistic visions bloom into reality! "Titans of Growth" portrays the grandeur of evolution, with a giant colossus representing challenges and man, fearless in the face of them, symbolizing the tireless search for progress.
My entry is all about the fun I have when working with Inkscape. It's an awesome tool and makes the creation of vector art a joy. I tried to get that vibe across as well as use some of the great features of the tool to showcase the abilities in a 'not quite like any other tool' way. Enjoy!

Here's grandma and her little grandchild, 'creating together' in Inkscape 1.3. This artwork was inspired by Inkscape's ease of use and accessibility, which this open-source software gives to its users. It also tries to illustrate the limitlessness by which Inkscape has become a great tool in graphics, even for this 15-year-old me! The new shape builder tool has made far easier and quicker boolean operations. Hi folks, Some months ago, I did pretty accidentally this tiny little cow. I completed this first shot by imagining it grew up from an primitive subatomic soup - or milky way. Technical infos : - No external font used (hand traced text) - "Metaball" filter effect, tutorial by Yacine3Dz : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cT41th-pIJc - Special techniques : filter (metaball + blur), clip/mask, clone, blend modes, live path effect (dynamic offset, pattern along path) - Pretty lightweight (250 kB) but takes full advantage of Inkscape's rendering power. Long life to Inkscape ! - EDIT - +Signature
It's 2023, and we have been witnessing many important milestones in Artificial Intelligence and Generative Art. With many tools like ChatGPT and DALLE-2 out in the market, its mainstream for artists to get confused and doubtful. An artwork is like a puzzle. Often we feel that we are missing one finishing touch to our artwork. This picture tries to put forth the synergy in creativity, where technology meets human creativity, trying to put the missing piece of the puzzle, creating new art styles and working together brainstorming ideas. Inkscape continues to remain an exceptional tool for developers, artists, and AIs alike, enabling them to create new art styles, redesign interfaces, and automate design. 20 years is a milestone. We are rooting for you, Inkscape! Fonts used: Fira Code, https://github.com/tonsky/FiraCode. "1.3" at the bottom center is not a font face.

Something simple for the contest. The roots in the logo represent consolidation. From it emerges a figure that is both open hands and the tip of a fountain pen, representing community and creativity. From here emerges a branch representing growth. The birds represent people coming from other places (softwares).

Finally, after several times in which I thought about participating and didn't do it, the time has come, and, winning hours of sleep, here I present my design proposal. As you can see, it's a kind of analogue version of the Inkscape user interface and, in what would be a "page" of the program, I made a design that joins the anniversary of the program and the new "Shape Builder Tool" of this version. Just in case it's not quite "legal", I clarify that, after deciding what I wanted to do (and to help me with perspective, shadows and proportions) I did a first stage of "blocking", modelling the objects of the design in Blender, without materials, and distributing them in a scene. Then I imported the image from Inkscape and used it as a base to make the illustration. The font for the text "SINCE 2003" and the font for my name (which I placed in the lower left corner) is "Miedinger Bold" (downloaded from https://fontlibrary.org/en/font/miedinger#Miedinger*-Bold). The text "20 years" is not a real typeface. It has been very tiring, but very entertaining, the whole process and I'm glad I decided to send a proposal.
Imagine yourself in a vast green field, surrounded by endless possibilities. Now, instead of following a linear path, you have the freedom to choose any direction to follow. This is what vector direction allows us to do.
Every human being who works with desgin or illustration, has an artist within himself, and uses tools to enhance and present his ideas, convictions and art. I represent these artists here in a tune with inkscape, presenting the new features and improvements of the software, making it increasingly versatile, which is already excellent has gotten even better. The idea is really in this illustration to bring the contemporary with digital art, presenting the traditional with the modern. Look at this Inkscape 1.4 tulip on the top right, clearly the most grown version :)
"Regarding growth, I believe it's not just about the growth of new life but also about the courage and patience to reshape oneself. Like a seed, one needs to break through oneself to emerge from the soil in order to continue growing. Similarly, a person must continuously embrace external cultures to reshape their thoughts and personality time and again, in order to progress. One is both the lock and the key to oneself, so I use a layered approach to depict human forms. Reshaping is a path that leads to an unknown future, so I use elements of roads to connect the imagery. I hope we can continuously reshape and grow again."

This snake is an "Asp viper", i found this one in a forest in France. Despite the relatively big size on the photo, this one was really small (like 2 cm diameter, 20cm long) I made some tests on my photos and i found this one gave interesting effects when vectorized. It has sadly no real link to the 20 years ^^ so i suggested the 20 with the round shapes ... not sure it's really visible :D Happy birssssday.

This image has the 4 newest features that appeared in Inkscape 1.2. Can be seen on the top plate of the UFO plane From the left there is a Refactored Color Palette, Multiple Page Documents, New Snapping Guides, and Re-imagined Gradient Panel features. The position of the UFO plane, which is slightly tilted to the right, symbolizes dynamics, meaning that Inkscape will always advance and keep up with the times. Why did I choose the UFO plane? because it is mysterious but always a hot topic. Like Inkscape, which seems not widely known, but always brings good features that can compete with other well-known software. Hi, I made this entry for the About Screen Contest for Inkscape 1.2. I am a teen who has gained an interest in vectors starting with Adobe Illustrator. I was shown to Illustrator by my visual design teacher and I have been in love with vector graphic editors ever since. A few months later I looked into Inkscape because I know I can't pay for Illustrator. And I was amazed at how well features were implemented. So, I wish more great features will get implemented as well as all the contributors to have good luck and a bunch of fun (and more work done on this). (also the Bot's name is a WIP but for now, I call him Draw bot or Drawbe)

Long ago, a man was walking through the mountains when suddenly, a star fell from the sky. It was bent, frail and lacking shine. It also looked different from the other stars. Unfortunately he didn't have the time or the energies to care for the star. So, he passed it on to his friend. His friend not wanting to give up on the fallen star cared for it deeply and for a long time. Just when it seemed his efforts were useless, something unexpected happened. The star broke out, shooting high into the air and shinning miraculously in the sky. It was large and well shaped, outshining the other stars and even producing stars of it's own. What was once broken and seemingly useless, became a shining star providing glorious light in the night sky. This story was inspired by the origins of inkscape (mostly the fact that the founders are not there anymore) as well my own personal life. Inkscape over the years with all the time, love and care put into it has become big and will no doubt be a blessing to many. The font I used is "Roboto" a font which can be found in the link below: https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Roboto So that's about it, hope you liked the art and the story. In a style inspired by Art Nouveau poster artist Alphonse Mucha. I have been studying Aaron Blaise's tutorials on how to draw big cats, and used a number of reference photos to make sure I had some of the head's coloring and proportions correct, but it's not directly from any one photo, really. "Born Freely" is a play on the title "Born Free," the true life story of a couple who pioneered the idea of returning a lion raised in captivity to the wild. Additional text is Linux Liberatore Display. I wanted to keep the text in keeping with the other branding to give your eyes a neutral feeling so that the drawing would stand out on its own.
Hello, in 2021 I participated in version 1.1 with the art "Save the Amazon", I'm not an illustrator, but I love to create something when I can. And in this version 1.3 art I brought a dinosaur in the middle of some futuristic planets and buildings (attempt). The important thing is to participate and maybe a Latin American art can win, right? The topic behind the art is Growth. Just when we grow up, like the people who are the trunk of the tree we grow and so does our branches and we share our knowledge and let it grow then with time we allow for our children to swing through it, allowing them to also develop more and grow their knowledge. The tree is supposed to resemble how a brain looks, apart of the hand growing out of it which is supposed to "boop the snoot" of the freshly painted "piece of art" of the fox, the fox reaches towards the tree of knowledge with his nose, and the colors slowly transfer to it.. Tried to keep it simple by not adding too many shades :)
The future starts by knowing the past. The first step is on time 0. The combination of the past and the arriving of a new future passes through the present. The creation is a mix between the old movies with a reference to the colors from "back to the future". The fonts of the numbers are chomsky and Xolonium. https://fontlibrary.org/en/font/xolonium https://fontlibrary.org/en/search?query=chomsky

Oh, and by the way... I didn't use any fonts. I did the signature text from scratch by using the Pen Tool.

This minimalist digital art piece was created to illustrate a blog post in my personal blog, and it pretends to resemble hand or a flag coming out from a hole in a box.
The rough sketch and final SVG artwork, was all done in Inkscape 1.1.2 I used solid shapes, along with linear and radial gradients. (no blur used) The use of a Wacom Pen Tablet, really helped to render the hair and beard. I used clipping masks for the hair and also the eyes. This allowed me to position the pupils and make fine adjustments. Draw Freely.
This minimalist digital art piece was created to illustrate a page in my personal blog, and it pretends to resemble a road with a multiple-paths-sign in the middle, also could be interpreted as a mountain with some abstract clouds on top.
