I've installed Solus linux and there seem to be minor glitches in several programs, including Inkscape. Here, some of the icons are missing and have a little "x" where they should be. Other programs have mis-sized dropdown boxes. Etc. Is this a universal problem or perhaps a problem with Solus? THanks
Not sure about Solus, but on Ubuntu I've found this problem when installing from the Snap package. Installing from the PPA doesn't have this problem. I've reported it here: https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape/-/issues/1432

Works well with Mint here.
I would say that some icons are missing... Check your theme before and also report this to the Solus forum.
