    Dear Inkscape Community,

I just started using Inkscape and I am excited to learn more about it. I like designing things and I am glad there is free software like this available. I have run into one problem that I have no idea how to fix and I really want to know what happened because I am perplexed. I am trying to edit a map that I created in ArcGIS and exported as a svg. When I open it in Inkscape the north arrow appears as a black line. When I look at the preview image in finder the arrow is there. Something is making it look wrong. Does any body have any ideas? I am using my macbook and I just installed inkscape recently so hopefully it is the current version. I attached some screen shots to give you an idea. Thanks for your help.

    Regards,

Well, it is years ago, that I used ARGGIS (3.0, 8.0)

But I remember that I use different layers and file-types, different map-files with different occupants, different icon-files with different DPI, draw-files, picture- and date-files. GIS make another file where you find the info how GIS connect all the different layers and files and where you can find them all on the HD. You can use a file twice and more if it is store at different places on HD.

Is your north-arrow an icon or a picture and which DPI has it? In which layer and place on HD you will find it?

I remember although three other different. I have a modus I work in, one I view (Viewer) what I have work and one I present my work. Which of them you have convert? Which GIS you use? I did not know if Inkscape can connect so many different files and / or layers in one file. If yes, is it the same way GIS use.

In which form of SVG-File have you stored it, Inkscape-SVG, optimizes SVG, normal SVG, comprimiertes SVG, SVG with or without commentary?

I know that Inkscape use XML to connect some layer for a special presentation.

Sorry more I can not help. Perhaps someone who know more about Inkscape can use this info for a better help.
