Embroidery and InkStitch Techniques for making text on top of a fill more crisp

Hello! I just started using InkStitch with a Brother PE800 and I'm really pleased with how full featured and easy to use it is! I'm working on digitizing our logo to add to staff vests. I'm really pleased with my satin columns in the "leaf" shape, but I wondered if there is a trick to make text over this kind of fill look more crisp. This design is about 2" wide and i'm using the preloaded fonts Small Font and DejaVu Serif, both scaled down slightly. I wondered if cutting a box out of the fill where the lettering is and giving that area a sparser fill would help- or do i just need to scale my whole design up so my letters are larger? (I've also invested in a scissors to remove those jump stitches, since I gather my machine only obeys trim commands during color changes)

Is the text scaling within the predefined bounds? Each font has been extensively tested by their authors. It is recommended to scale the text within the Ink/Stitch text module. You can easily find fonts made for your size with the filter (font height).

In most cases this isn't a good idea. Cutting out little pieces of a fill will lead to more stitches within the fill and you may have unwanted gaps.

Since you already have a strong underlay with your fill, you could consider removing the font underlay (since it is also showing).

If your font is very small, it could be a good idea to use thin thread instead of a standard weight.

Don't be afraid to test whatever comes into your mind. You will learn from whatever you try, even when it needs a little more time to get what you want.
