Beyond the Basics Printing index cards?

    Hello, all,

I'm trying to print a document on a 4"x6" index card. I've designed the document with a 4x6 page size, in landscape orientation. When I print it, it starts printing about half way down the 6" dimension. Described another way, what I see on the card is the right half of the document only, starting on the left edge of the card.

I'm printing to a Brothers MFC-7840W laser printer, through the CUPs system. I insert the card with the 4" edge first, using the Manual Feed slot.

I'm able to work around this problem by creating my document as a US Letter 8.5"x11" document in landscape format, with all the content in a (non-printing) box located at the left-hand margin and centered between the top and bottom edges of the page. When I feed a 4x6 card into the manual paper feed, all the content comes out correctly on the page.

Has anyone else tried to print cards (pages less than US Letter size) using the manual feed of a printer, and had them print out correctly? Any tricks to doing this?

Thanks for your advice and help.

    -Kevin

Many users save a copy as PDF and print from a reader.  I'd give that a try.

@TylerDurden, thanks. I did already try that, with evince document viewer 42.3. The document formatted 4x6 prints in the middle of the US letter 8.5x11 paper.

    Thanks for suggesting something.
