I just learned that there's a way to chg or perhaps add a theme? I'm on Win 7, using 1.0 and 92.4. Tried to search the forum to no avail.
I am Not loving the layout of the default 1.0 - the grays/blacks, the skinny scroll bars, and esp the icons which are smaller than the previous version, (which oddly have more room around them), so less icons show than in older versions.
On our sister FB site, someone showed me that there's a 'theme' in Edit>preferences>interface>theme - which I do not have. How does this get installed? Hoping this will be some sort of extension.
I was just making some customizations [ check Theming Inkscape 1.0 on beyond the basics ] You need to download a gtk3 theme and copy the necessary files for Inkscape to see them. I'm on Windows and the theme folder is one appdata/local/themes [i will share the correct path later as I can't remember it all] As for the theme there are a lot on gnome-look.org There is a category for them! Copy the folder and you're done!
There is a tab under the picture called "files (16)". Choose one or many, click on the arrow and download. You need to uncompress the .tar with 7zip or the likes, sometimes you will need to uncompress two times!
When you finally get the folder, in this case Ant, you will find folders like assets, and gtk-3 etc. You can copy the whole directory on the themes folder path and it will look something like
C:\Users\your_name\AppData\Local\themes\Ant where ant is the folder you copied with all the files inside. When you open inkscape, change the property on the interface panel to Ant.
My eyes are rolling, lol. Not really what I want. I'm actually just looking mostly to get the icon sizes from the previous version of inkscape, (92.4 etc). Is that somewhere easy to find? I don't really want all the themes, my laptop is old and the graphics card, etc isn't so great.
The reason i suggested to install a new theme was because it isn't just about the icon size but also the space between them and the size of the menu bars. Maybe you could share two screenshots, one old and one new to compare? There is the option to change the icon size, but this won't change the menu "space". I also have ms-theme as a theme in the options; it could be your best bet if the laptop is old.

RM. Thanks! Where can i find these files?
Here's the path C:\Users\your_name\AppData\Local\themes
Usually AppData is a hidden folder, so you might need admin rights to see it. Place the folder of one of those themes https://www.gnome-look.org/browse/cat/135/ord/plinged/
there are many so you probably are going to spend some time.. An example: Imagine you want to use this https://www.gnome-look.org/p/1099856/
