I'm hoping to create a bleed area extending an image, not for bleed around the margins or document/page edges.

Looks like the only way to do it is to use Trace Bitmap and create a vector shape and re-color it in as a path or vector shape.Ā  The image I'm working with is a PNG, though raster not vector.

In the screenshot, I'd like to extend the flag image to fill the black area, so the flag stays in the middle but the colors from it fill the offset black section.

    Thanks!

(using Windows 11, Inkscape 1.3.2 from .msi install)

In this attempt I cloned the original image, transformed it to make it bigger and moved it to the background. Repeat five more times. I applied blurring and transparency to all but the top clone in the stack.

    If I understand:

Iā€˜d draw a larger rectangle around the image - take the Fill Bucket tool and fill the space between image and rectangle - remove rectangle and outer path will leave you with a path to which you can apply dynamic Offset or widen with a bunch of tools.
