Hey everyone, it's time for a new challenge. This time, your task is to draw FRUIT! 🍏🍊🍉🍇🍒

Draw your favourite fruit, a slice or a whole fruit, a fruit dessert or a fruit on a tree, anything fruity!

Your image can be simple or complex, and whatever your skill level - from beginner to professional artist - you are welcome and encouraged to take part. Submissions can be anything, from art and logos to laser-cut or 3D printed objects; as long as you used Inkscape.

If you've any questions or aren't clear about something, please ask.

2. If you want to post work-in-progress images, create a thread in the WIP folder, and post your images there. When you're finished, post the final image in this thread.

3. The challenge will run from 26 March - 09 April. There are no winners. These challenges are intended to inspire you, and encourage you to share your work with us.

4. You're encouraged to join in the discussion and offer your thoughts and feedback, but please be friendly and respectful. Constructive criticism is fine, trolling/abuse is not. We all want to learn and improve, so let's support each other in doing that.

5. Most importantly, be creative and have fun!

Hi Algot, and welcome to the forum. Sorry for the mix-ups earlier, but we're glad to have you here and joining in the challenge!

Made an orange slice. It turned out not too badly, though perhaps the lighter star-shaped bits extending from the middle should have been thinner. Used Fractalise to generate some roughness, then played about with a couple of filters to add some noise. Drew random highlights and blurred them a bit.

Had some fun with this, and think I'll try another fruit, if I have time.

z3z, is the display difference between your orange slice because you posted a PNG instead of an SVG? I thought I'd read and understood the posting instructions. I think it looks much nicer to see the image "in" the forum post instead of being attached.

Algot, I used the 'Embed into HTML' option when I uploaded the file. It works fine for PNG, but I don't think I'd use it for SVG files, unless they were very, very simple. Browsers don't support all the features that Inkscape offers, so best to play it safe and create a PNG if you want to embed (just keep an eye on the image size if you make big images). It's helpful to be able to attach an SVG file to your comment for troubleshooting or as part of a tutorial, but I feel a png is better for finished artwork.

I've attached a screenshot showing where the 'embed' button is. Click the blue 'Upload File' button, then select your file. Once it's uploaded, a few new buttons with appear at the right. Click on the 'embed' button and that'll put the image into your post. Hope that's clear. :)

z3z, thank you. That explanation is clear. Each forum system has its own tricks. It might take me time to get used to the ones here.

OK, I promise this is my last!

I had some time and couldn't resist having another go. This cherry is based on a pic from Unsplash which you can see here. I think it turned out not too badly, except the bit where the bottom of the stem meets the cherry which could probably do with more work. I don't have any more time to spend on it though, so it'll need to do!

It was made with just a mix of gradients and filters layered on top of each other. I probably should have tried the mesh gradient in retrospect, as I only used radial & linear gradients, but no matter. It was a lot of fun anyway.

My entry is a little different, I decided to make a product label (something Inkscape is known to be used to make in the real world too).

I had a similar idea, creating a logo / icon. 

And I thought, I'd share some older artwork. As you can see, I have a crush for smilieys.

Here's mine, a cashew. It's the fruit for the cashew nuts. Back at home it is called “Caju”, and I think normally I would eat it or drink its juice, and rarely eat the nuts, sometimes even throwing it away 😂 ! The word comes from Tupi (like capybara, jaracandá, açaí, piranha, etc).

The image in the first comment came from one of the organisers of the Inkscape Facebook group (sorry, I don't know who precisely, though I'd love to give them credit - I'll try to find out for future challenges). I agree, it's brilliant!

The quote thing is a little odd, and I'm not even sure I'm doing it properly. I copy the text from the comment I want to quote (like how I've copied the text from your comment above) then paste it into the comment box. Then, I drag the mouse over the text to select it, and hit the Block Quote button from the toolbar above the comment box (it's the one with the quotation mark). The software seems to detect whose comment you're quoting, and it adds their name.
