Hi, lately I have been looking into designing an effect similar to the below example - a displacement driven by a map or text object, used for security paper design, watermarking. I couldn't find anything so far. Any info is appreciated. This example was produced with Blender, then imported to Inkscape. I am seeking a native solution in Inkscape.
Here's my attempt using the svg displacement filter. Some pixels are stretched and smeared so it's not as clean as your example.
You can change the text. You can change the displacement by changing text fill colour. Use red and blue colour sliders in the Fill and Stroke dialog. The pattern is a clone of the lone path in the middle. You can change the ripple by changing the nodes and the stroke style.
I see that this is a raster effect in Inkscape and is not applied to actual geometry. It would be great to have an extension that applies displacement to the path nodes.
That would be nice. Vector effects can be found under [Path > Path Effects...] but there's nothing like a displacement map.
Edit: There's the [Offset] effect, which displaces vectors based on a normal to the curvature. There's the [Extrude] effect. which displaces vectors by a fixed linear distance. Maybe some clever programmer could adapt these for linear displacement based on a "guide" shape.

Thanks, is this a custom filter or an extension I need to download? I cannot find SVG displacement in the Inkscape menus.
Please ignore my previous post, I opened your example SVG in Inkscape and saw the setup. Thanks again!
