Well i guess that the cylinders will be placed on the drawing panel in Inkscape so that we have them ( lets say we take the number of 10 cylinders) - all over the drawing panel.
then - in a second step i try to draw the line - and thirdly
I´d go for a more "perspective view/camera angle" by making the bottom ellipse higher than the top one. Apart from that, I see the cylinder more as a "barrel":
hello dear Tyler - hello dear Polygon - many thanks for all!!
so awesome - so encouraging - this is truely a awesome support-forum.
bttw: i tired to dive into selections in Inkscape - see below - but this was a bit confusing - in fact i was not able to add a selection - ... do i have tooo many paths here ----!?
Hi – I wanted to isolate something in Inkscape – but somehow I got confused. I don't think it's possible to set a selection area – no, I don't even have that in the selection menu. Question: Why is that – do I perhaps have too many layers in the "game"? I look forward to hearing from you.
Selection tools like you suggest are more common in bitmap/image editors like GIMP and photoshop.
Isolating portions of an imported bitmap can be done non-destructively in Inkscape with clipping. It's unclear why you are having trouble.
The bigger question is why are you using Inkscape (a vector program), when the operations you show interest in are conventional image (bitmap) editing found in photoshop and GIMP?
many thanks well i am just starting in inkscape -and - of course - i come from GIMP so the approach in doing things is just trained and influenced by years of GIMP-experience and use cases. That said - i cannot say that i am a GIMP - Pro - no i am also novice there.

are we able to do such a drawing... in inkscape

The cylinders are similar to the soup-can tutorial: http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/SoupCan.html
good evening dear Tyler Durden
many thanks for the reply and the heads up. I will have a closer look at the tutorial
btw: what a awesome forum here. I am lovin it ;)
by the way - what bout the usage of cylinders that are allready available!?
see here: https://www.cleanpng.com/png-cylinder-surface-area-shape-volume-1619366/
well tyler Durden - how do you think about this!? I really look forward to hear from you
Inkscape is a vector illustration tool.
I find it counterintuitive and counterproductive to use bitmap images when scalable vector objects are easy to create and modify in Inkscape.
hi there - many thanks for the hints - this is awesome - and very very encouraging - thanks for the great tutorial.
i will dive into inkscape.
greetings

Seems you‘re using clipgroup or clipping path for whatever reason. I don‘t think it‘s necessary.
good day dear polygon - many thanks for the reply. Well i will check things.
thanks for all your great support.
greetings

i guess that i messed up with the paths - and layers - way to many paths & layers.. i guess

good day dear Tyler - many thanks for the heads up - i will have a closer look at it.
thank you so much for this
