It is saying that "It is not possible in inkscape (yet) to create a gradient other than linear or radial." But we already have soooo cool mesh gradients. See the photo for comparison (left: Interpolate, right: mesh gradient)
I'm confused. If browsers can't display gradient meshes yet, how does it work to open in a new tab. Unless you're talking about something else besides a browser tab?
Or did I just miss the joke?
Edit
Although it does sound like that tutorial needs an update!
And it has been *quick fixed* there (i.e. wording can be improved, anyways), so I guess just exporting to svg and location referencing is left: seems not such big of a task.
@brynn I was thinking same regarding browser compatibility, and there were no jokes in that line 😅 (←emoji from AOSP 6.0, it may be rendered differently in latest OSes). But ithe svg is definitely not shown when 'embedded in html' or 'gallery mode', while it truly DO opens in new tab near perfectly. I dont know why is this so. And I havent researched about it much either.
Didn't it open for u? (I tried on Chromium based Vivaldi Browser 2.x on Win 10)
Oh, that's very strange indeed! Attached below a screenshot of new tab (with some red ovals showing some weird display). But the mesh seems to be displayed mostly properly.
Also below that, I'm going to try putting it directly into the html (not in new tab).
@brynn Yeah, it seems to be a preview as u said, as the url says '*viewdp*' (sorry, that observation was a result of the bug in address bar of latest vivaldi beta for android)
Also, @Moini I suppose that the link I posted earlier (this one) fetches from the link u posted (from gitlab) (is it so?).
Anyways (this is too small to be a new issue I think, so discussing here) I dont think that we should refer to the old times(ref below), just say that "It can also be used to fake gradients (quickly?) "
At the time when gradient meshes were not implemented...
Help > Tutorials > Inkscape: Interpolate

Also, (as of 2019.12.08) meshes aren't made standard for SVGs, hence unsupported by browsers , so, right click and open image in new tab to see it.
(I am not being rude with that meme in the annotation, just am trying to be funny)

this reference blend function of illustrator, not mesh gradients .

@AdamBelis I dont get what u were trying to say, but definitely got the idea to check inkscape site for tutorials and found the particular one:

Hhmm, doesn't show up. But I'm baffled how it shows in a new tab!
Edit
Oh, I know. It's because it's uploaded to the gallery, which gives it a thumbnail. It's not displaying the SVG. It's displaying a PNG.
The tutorial has already been updated for Inkscape 1.0. The update is not available in the beta version yet, as far as I know, though. See https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape-docs/documentation/blob/master/tutorials/interpolate/tutorial-interpolate.xml#L229 .
For any further issues with tutorials, please visit https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape-docs/documentation/issues and create a new issue.

Please discuss tutorials issues in the correct place. I don't want to work on fixing it now, but others might - or you can do it yourself, too :)
