Issue: When using the text tool in Inkscape, and when I hit 'Return' / 'Enter' the cursor does not do CR + LF, but instead returns to the start of the same line! What might be the issue here?
Researched: Manual / Release Notes / Forum - No relevant Information found. MS 'Co-Pilot' suggested:
It sounds like you're encountering a common issue with Inkscape's text tool. When you press 'Return', the cursor should move to the next line, but it's returning to the start of the same line instead1. This might be due to a setting or preference in Inkscape.
Here are a few steps you can try to resolve this:
Check Text Tool Settings: Go to Text > Text and Font and ensure that the Line Spacing is set correctly.
Preferences: Go to Edit > Preferences > Interface > Keyboard and check if there are any custom shortcuts that might be interfering with the 'Return' key behavior.
Update Inkscape: Make sure you're using the latest version of Inkscape, as updates often fix bugs and improve functionality.
If these steps don't resolve the issue, you might want to check the Inkscape forums or support resources for more specific advice.
Since I have not been able to resolve this issue, I would like to ask in the forum if anyone could (and 'would') help me on this.
Another reason this can happen is imported text from PDF or other external source. In which case, I usually select the text and use menu: Text>Remove manual kerns.
Well thank you all for the friendly and welcoming remarks. If I had known that I was applying for the text editing department, I would have done a lot better ....
Nice to know that there are still factually competent and helpful people ...

I don't know how PDF issues got into this thread, but have nothing to do with my reported issue .... thanks anyway for responding.
Further, this issue has now been resolved - by myself, I might add.
I decided to 'remove' applications / add-ons, which have any 'Hot-Key' functions / capabilities. Lo and Behold, when I removed MS 'Power Toys' (Autostart) this issue vanished. I can even use power toys when I start the app *after* running Inkscape!

The source of the file with the issue was undeclared, so it could have easily been an imported pdf or eps. These imported filetypes had issues for a number of years, particularly where the CR/LF did not behave as expected.

... but WAIT!, just not here!
Can you upload an example perhaps?
@TylerDurden where didi you get the info about the use of PDF from?
My info is from personal experience. Maybe it's been fixed, since the last time I imported a pdf.
I asked because of this:
