Beginners' Questions Deleting background in the interior of an image?

    Beginner here and I am working on this image to delete the tan background including the space between the hat strap and Eddie's face. 

    I used the Bezier tool method to outline the background, selected image and background, and then used the toolbar sequence of "Object - Clip - Clip Set".  It deleted the exterior background.

    How do I eliminate the interior piece of background in this photo.  I tried the same Bezier tool method but it deletes the image instead of the background that is outlined.  Here's the image with the interior background outlined with the Bezier tool that I can't delete.  (  Windows 10, Inkscape 1.2.2 (732a01da63, 2022-12-09)  )

    Combine the two bezier curves into a single multi-path shape [Path > Combine] or [ctrl+k] to create a shape with a hole. You may need to reverse one of the paths first [Path > Reverse]. Then clip your image as before.
