Hello there. I am very new to using Inkscape, and I fear I might have changed some setting that messes up every text that I add to my document.
Every time I add a new text object to my document, the text is rotated 90 degrees clockwise from what I expect. When I first click, my cursor will appear vertical, as though I am about to type vertical text. But as soon as I start typing, the text appears rotated. It doesn't matter if I click using the text tool, or click and drag using the text tool. I checked all of the settings in Document Properties and Edit -> Preferences -> Text Tool, but there's nothing that obviously causes it.
I searched on Google and on this forum, but I wasn't able to find anyone else with this issue. Which makes me think I might have accidentally changed a setting in the past 🙃.
OS: Windows 10 Inkscape: v1.3
I have attached a screenshot and the relevant svg of a brand new document with this issue.
Gah, that was it. Thank you so much! Like I said, I must have changed that setting at some point and forgot about it.
For other folks looking at this, here was the trouble I was having finding the setting. I looked for the setting David248 pointed out, but it was a drop down menu. The normal L->R text option is at the top of this menu, but it isn't visible unless you hover over the up arrow in the dropdown menu. I wonder why Inkscape doesn't just show all of the options. Why do you need a scrolling menu for something that only has three options?

Thanks in advance!
When you use text tool, the option to put text vertically must be enabled. Click on the icon just left (see pic).
Then save this setting for text tool, to avoid getting the same issue next time you use it.

The way inkscape displays the different icons of toolbars depends on the screen you use and perhaps the display options (Menu : View).
