I have a 1,000+ page document I need to redact. When I import or open, I can inly edit one page at a time. Obviously that does not work. I am sorry that I do not understand how to use chat forums, I posted something but nothing happens, no response. am I supposed to leave the chat page open until I get a response? Sorry I dont undersstand "black hole" communications.
1. Please edit your post and remove your phone number and email address. These are not needed for answering your question.
2. You will receive an email from the forum (like this one) when someone replies to your question.
3. You first had asked your question on IRC. IRC is a medium that forgets and that will not send emails for any replies. You would indeed have had to stay online to get any replies (there weren't any, though, to the problem itself, but only to the fact that you shared your private data, which has since been removed)
4. Inkscape only uses a single page per document at this time. What type of document are you trying to open? I assume it's a pdf? What type of edits are you planning to do in it?
You might find it easier to place your document in a PDF format and then use the basic drawing and text selection tools in a PDF editor to complete your redactions then output the finished file as a flattened sereis of PNG or TIFF images that are then collated back into their original order for further printing, stortage as a new PDF file (with redactions), or transmission via attachment to email, etc. =)
Inkscape only opens files with a single-page canvas ... so it would not be well-suited for the task that you are describing, although the tools for being able to make obfuscations to images are effective.
Please let us know if you find another solution or would like to make a feature request to support 1) multiple-page document support for Inkscape; and/or 2) basic tools for digital obfuscation/redacttion that meets or exceeds specified cryptographic requirements.
(Also, it may be unwise to leave your contact details on this posting visiible - if you wish to remove them and then offer to exchange them indivually should you find someone who can help, that might be best.)
Thank you for your advice. I will consider using a PDF editor to redact my documents. I will also consider making a feature request to Inkscape to support multiple-page document support and basic tools for digital obfuscation. I will remove my contact details from this posting.
I think Elsie's a spammer. I've just rejected what seems like a reasonable comment but it in no way responds to the comments in this thread. It's been copy/pasted from somewhere else or generated by AI most likely. I don't want Elsie to be over the two comment threshold where she can unleash her spam without a check in place.
If true, this is a sinister new challenge for moderation and rules. Please keep us posted! (Also, might be worth editing out those contact details from the original post as Maren suggested - this could be “encouraging” unknown attention.) -N
Yeah, I'm not looking forward to the incoming AI spam 😭
I've removed those contact details as suggested. I don't know if it was attracting spammers, but it shouldn't be there anyway. As for Elsie, now I could be wrong, but there are a few warning signs. She joined the forum 11 hours ago and responds to a comment from 2019 as if she'd just posted it. Her second comment was a long one all about how to open/use PDFs. There was nothing overtly spammy about it, but it didn't mention Inkscape once. I suspect she was hoping to edit this comment at some point down the line to insert spam links when no-one was looking. Fortunately we've locked comments after 24 hours to try to put a stop to that. I'm fairly sure her profile pic is AI generated too.
It's hard sometimes when your gut feeling is a comment is from a spammer, but there's nothing obviously wrong with it. I grudgingly approve some things and try to keep an eye on them as best as I can.

Inkscape 1.3 can handle multiple page documents already. Check the Page-tool.

Thank you, @z3z! 💚
AI generated language tends to be quite formal and grammatically perfect. The other yellow flags are as noted.
When in doubt, I delete the comments and see if they respond. I have yet to hear a complaint.
While many AI generated comments here are innocuous, I regard them as unwanted and involuntary Turing-testing on our members.
