Not sure what a laser printer wants as "fill."  However if you could share a svg file with the problem, me or someone here might have an insight.

from what i was told i need to use object to path to get outlined letters and if i wanted it etched i just don't use the object to path but when i export it with turnkey exporter i get an error of : unable to generate raster for object flowroot15 as it does not have an x-y coordinate associated

I know next to nothing about turnkey.  Maybe https://github.com/TurnkeyTyranny/laser-gcode-exporter-inkscape-plugin/issues/18

hi, use trace bitmap if you have imported writing as an image, but if you have typed it in inkscape you don't have to it is ready as is then set the fill colour to black in the fill and stroke settings panel or press and hold control plus black swatch at bottom left of the program window. lasers  normally need raster work to be black to accept it.
