Hello! I'm trying to get a long stretch of music notation wrapped in a spiral (see example).

I have the music notation made in notation software and brought into Inkscape. I've grouped all the elements into a single group. I've made a spiral.

Pattern along Path seems like the right idea but it doesn't work with the source material. I don't know if it's too many elements together or otherwise too complex, but nothing happens when I paste the shape into the Pattern Along Path effect. (It does work when I paste simpler shapes).

Am I doing something wrong, or is there a better method for this material?

I can think of two solutions:

1. [Pattern along path] can't use a group as the pattern source. [Path > Combine] your score into a single path and try again.

2. [Bend] your group using the spiral as the bend path.

@elliotc Are your notation elements paths? If not, you may first turn those into paths.

LPE Bend works quite well out of the box:

@elliotc O, I think I got it:
1. Ungroup
2. Go to the "A" with the square frame in the beginning of the elements. Click on that frame delete the fill color (it's white) and keep its black stroke.
3. Select again all elements, go to Path > Stroke To Path (it will take some time, so wait).
4. While all elements are still selected, turn the whole of it in a single path. Now you can use it for the Pattern Along Path LPE.
5. Afterwards you can always tweak the width and the Tangential Offset as you please (look at the settings of my example)
