Using Inkscape with Other Programs Converting PDF file to DXF in order to open the original PDF file in TurboCAD

    Hi,

I have been made aware of this application software vis a Google search on how I can convert my PDF file to CAD format (DXF) so that I can open it in TurboCAD. I have followed the instruction but the only issue I have is that the converted file does not open to scale in TurboCAD. Can anyone help? Ideally I would like to open the PDF file in Inkscape at 1:1 scale so that when imported to TurboCAD it will full scale

    Thanks in advance

I'd check the document units & size in the PDF reader (document properties) and mimic those in Inkscape.

Feel free to share and example pdf file.

    Hi Tyler

Thanks for quick response. Actually the PDF is from Turbocad which was a TCW format, I saved it as PDF so I can email it to people. I subsequently lost the TCW format file from within TurboCAD (dont ask how that happened! I don't know what happened. ) Now I want to import it back to TurboCAD once its converted using inkscape. I will caheck the units in PDF but not sure if that is the issue

I set all units to mm and everything comes out within about 0.5%.

I would have expected better, but I can't vouch for the precision of the PDFs generated by Turbocad.

    Hi Tyler,

How did you reset the units in the PDF documents, do you have full version of acrobat? I have the free version.

With regards to the 0.5%. I could photocopy the plan with 0.5% increase in size then scan it and then import it into Inkscape and save as DXF then open it in TurboCAD. Would that work? I'll try

Adobe Reader preferences has a setting for units (although it is not required for this). The level of precision (digits to the right of the decimal point) does not seem adjustable.

    • I opened the pdf file in Inkscape
    • Set the display units and page units to mm
    • Used the measure tool (ruler) set to mm (to check lengths)
    • Saved a copy as foo.dxf (r14), units set to mm

I would not scan for an image. Big can of worms.

The vectors can be re-scaled in Inkscape (which allows x and y scaling), or the dxf can be scaled in TurboCad.

If you right click canvas with the measuring tool there is Change scale ratio and precision.

I'd  say Adobe Reader and Inkscape are in agreement.
