Beyond the Basics Problem with fonts (Inkscape 1.3.2)

I'm using a legitimate and updated Windows 10 Home Edition... and every time I type some text and choose a font, Inkscape crashes. Once or twice I managed to configure the font, but more often it crashes, even though it's Arial!

What could this be? In other programs, the fonts are read normally...

Inkscape1.4 is just released - perhaps jump train?

    Jump Train???

I mean „use 1.4 instead of 1.3.2.“ Note that it seems necessary to deinstall Inkscape first for a known but unsolved issue before installing 1.4 on Windows.

    Problem with fonts persists...

I updated to the latest version of Inkscape and it didn't help much. Here I wrote a text using the Columbus font (1). First problem: I click on the text and those selection marks don't appear. It only selects when I drag it with the mouse.

Second problem: I made a copy of the same text and... look what happens when I drag the text across the screen (2). I've never had similar problems, what's going on?

Did you deinstall Inkscape before updating as recommended and does this happen with all fonts?

Yes, I always uninstall a program before installing the updated version. I did an experiment now, opening a new file. I typed some text, made two copies of them and set them to three different fonts. I moved the texts and the display problem didn't happen.

But in another experiment, Inkscape crashed. It was like this: I imported a png with a sketch of a logo that I had made in Gimp. I placed a sketch on a layer below, reduced the opacity and created a new layer above, to create the text. The text used two fonts: BigNoodleTitling and Columbus.

The first font was almost OK: the only problem is that, in Inkscape I can't make it bold, while in Krita and Gimp, I can. As for the Columbus font, the program crashed as soon as I selected it from the list: I couldn't even apply it to the text. I'm thinking about installing an old version of Inkscape (1.2 or 1.0), because I can't use it...

The font problem didn´t occur in the older Inkscape versions?

Only in this version and the version immediately before it. It never occurred in the others...and it is probably not caused by the sources I cited, because otherwise they would cause problems in other programs.

Did you reset the preferences after installing the latest version? https://inkscape.org/forums/questions/getting-back-to-square-one-and-starting-over-its-easy/

Yes, I reset the preferences. Just to be safe, I did it again now. I reopened Inkscape and only changed only some basic preferences: theme (I prefer light), icon themes (I'm used to Tango), number of tools in the Toolbar (I like to leave the ones I use the most and with the icon size at 150%).

I did another experiment: I typed some text, made four copies of it and set a different font for each one. I noticed some difficulty in navigating through the drop-down menu of the font list: the bar seemed to slip away, even when I kept the mouse button clicked on it. When I was going to set the font for the fourth copy... Inkscape froze. I could only take a screenshot, here it is:

Might be one of these bugs (I have not read through them).

In this thread, Scrolling through fonts with wheel causes crash, there is this tip: "If you turn off the "font preview" option, it seems to fix that error."

I disabled this in the preferences. It partially solved the problem, Inkscape didn't crash but the instability continues. Note that in the screenshot only half of the third font appears.

There is also a mention of a file: libpango32-1.0-0.dll. I wonder if it was updated?

Giving feedback: I removed Inkscape and installed version . Apparently the font problems are solved... except for the Columbus font.

I can change and select the font, but strangely, when I click on the text with the pointer, it is not selected. I have to select by dragging, and then Inkscape selects the text. In texts with other fonts, the selection is normal.

Apparently, the font problems started after version 1.2.2 and continue in the current one...
