Beyond the Basics Moving objects with Gradient

I now realized that there is a specific button to move an object which have a gradient. As I was going crazy with the behavior of the things that I was trying to create.

It is not trivial that a gradient is a feature of an object? Why that a gradient would exist separately from an object?

And even if for some reason (that probably I cannot see) exists, why it is not by default ON?

Both options are possible, you find one useless or silly today but you may need this option one day and realize it's not that weird. Once the option is enabled, it remains enabled "by default"

I think the software creators (I don't know if you are one of them) should think and discuss if this feature is necessary and when is needed.

In my opinion it is rare that "all" the workspace should contain the gradient and it is better or more useful that the gradient is applied on an object (or say in the object space).

Even if it is decided that it is needed, in my opinion it should be ON by default (this should be decided according to the most possible case).

I am just adding my small idea as a user.

No problem, I understand your answer. I was just explaining that once the option is enabled in selector tool, you can consider it has now become "by default" 😁 So that's not a big deal if it was not enabled by default (I don't even know if it is, when installing inkscape for the first time - I think it is).

Now, instead of gradients, think in terms of patterns. You could wish all object would have their patterns perfectly aligned, for example.
