Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials How to select multiple objects having the same colors at once instead of selecting one by one in Inkscape?

Hey everyone, I know selecting so many objects having the same colors inInkscape can sometimes look like a task, but there is a solution to it and this post is all about it.

Suppose you are working in Inkscape and you have fifty objects having red as a fill color and ten objects having yellow as a fill colors, and then you have to select all the red colors or the yellows, then what should you do?

You can either select each object one by one or you can simply select let say object having red as a fill color and then go to the "EDIT" option and navigate to the "SELECT SAME" and then click on the "FILL COLOR" and that's it you are done.

"Select Same" was introduced with v .91.

Hi, I just came across this because of a need to change the Fill Opacity in a bunch of objects. Great feature and I was hopeful. I was able to find all the objects with Select Same and I they all have an 85% Opacity but it is shown as 100% in the Fill panel. But I can't increase it. I can change the color and the Opacity starts at 100% and I can reduce it, but can't increase it. Note the fill color is for one component of a Grouped object.

    Opacity is like an onion.....

At the lowest level you can choose transparent paint for your fill and for your stroke. Next you can apply transparency to an entire shape. Next you can apply transparency to a group of shapes, or to the parent group of groups. Finally you can apply transparency to a layer in your drawing, and to every parent layer above it.

When you look at a transparent shape in your drawing, it's not easy to see where in this hierarchy has transparency been applied. Is it filled with transparent ink? Or is it a member of a transparent group? 100% opaque shape can be filled with 85% opaque colour in a 90% opaque layer. All you can do is drill down through the structure and check what's in the opacity box at each level.

Thank you for the great explanation! Yup, I had to drill down to find the item that had the opacity that it shouldn't have. I corrected that and now all it good.
