Thanks but it didn't work. The shape is not transparent, it just does not show up at all when I try to insert it. All I can see is the outline as shown in the screenshot I attached in my first post. I cannot rotate the invisible shape either, only resize it. Doesn't matter if it's a circle or square shape. I uninstalled & reinstalled the latest version of Inkscape, but still have the same problem.

Inkscape crashed and now I cannot see the shapes (circles/elipses, squares/rectangles) I try to insert. Here's all I can see:
Please go Object-> "Fill and Stroke" tab and adjust the colours - seems all "unset" or transparent.

Can you open Inkscape´s Preferences and go "System" and hit "Reset Preferences" quit and restart and check if this helps?
If not please find this file on your HD delete - and restart Inkscape. It will generate a new one - hopefully working for you.
