I'm a beginner at Inkscape so not sure what the problem is-when I try to type text, instead of letters Inkscape produces these bizarre circle shapes, I attached an image. When I change to other fonts, it produces different, blocky bizarre shapes. I've tried both fonts that I bought and downloaded and Inkscape's original fonts and it does this for every font. This also happened to me once before but I just restarted the program and the problem was solved; now, I've restarted both the program and my computer and the problem is still there. I'm using Inkscape 1.2, on macOS Monterey version 12.3.1.
Yeah it's the stroke. Set the stroke the way you like on a typed object and then set the tool settings with a double click on the tool... "take from selection".
Oh! I fixed it. I went to preferences>system and reset preferences but this time I double clicked, thank you for pointing that out! Did I understand your method of fixing it correctly? I'd like to know multiple ways of fixing it if it happens again

I'd check the Stroke settings, but feel free to share an example Inkscape SVG file that has the issue.
Ok, thank you in advance! I looked at stroke style and I'm trying to play around with the settings but it won't apply to new text I type out?

Sorry, do you mean go into preferences>tools>text> and then take from selection? I tried that and it didn't work
