Inkscape Release Candidate 1.1 is available for you to download and test. This is the final release candidate before the official 1.1 release, expected in a few weeks.
We encourage you to use it as you would use Inkscape 1.1 stable, in order to find any problems you may encounter with the release. In particular, if you find any regressions, please do submit a bug report as soon as possible on https://inkscape.org/report
If you'd like to help with translations into your language, let us know.
I am grateful for the work done and this upcoming release.
Unfortunately, the Bug issue #4824 - Delete key not working - is still not working - as of today, May 5.
I installed and uninstalled the zip version for Windows 10 three times, and this bug is still there. You have to either right mouse key the object and delete it from there, or choose delete from the Edit menu. Even if you convert the object to a Path, the inability to delete it by just pressing the Delete key still exists.
I found my "solution". Perhaps this will help someone else.
I checked many settings in the Preferences file - nothing odd there. I checked my Document Properties. I noticed the Viewbox fields, Width and Height, had odd settings. I changed them to be a correct ratio (percentage of the Customized Width and Height settings. Saved the file and reopened it. Went through all the standard tools to create objects, Ellipse, Rectangles, Polygons, Bezier Tool, etc. Still could not delete them simply by pressing the Delete key alone.
*** Then I made a Text Object and deleted it by using the Delete key only. Then any other object I made also would delete by using the Delete key only. Saved file again and re-opened it. Now all objects delete as expected, by choosing the Delete key.
My guess is that because the Viewbox had odd-ball numbers which were not in proportion to my Customized Settings for the Width and Height, this somehow interfered with that Delete key operation or confused Inkscape in some manner. Bottom line, that works now.
And this test version seems to be a big thumbs up. I will exploring it some more in the next few days.
Thanks everyone, Inkscape developers, and all contributors!

All your Inkscape versions is using the same User config folder on your system. I recommend renaming this folder temporarily before testing a new version (in order to start fresh). After testing you can delete the new folder and go back to using your old folder with all your preferred templates, settings and extensions. The location of your User config folder is listed in Preferences > System.
Thank you, Aero. But I found my "solution" as I shared in my previous post. I still have the multiple versions - safe in different folders. Including this test version, and all, including this latest one, are working. I appreciate your help. Once the 1.1 version is released, and I test it, then I will move on to using it. Again, thank you.

Yes they are safe in their folders, but your Inkscape User config folder (hidden on your system) is not safe from them. Even the 7z versions is sharing the same User config folder.
I guess you could call my last post here "How to eat crow", because I have. I just turned on my computer again and restarted Inkscape (candidate release 1.1 version) and the same "delete" issue has returned. I will delete it, re-install it and see if I do things as you suggested. Inkscape folks, I apologize. I did not mean to hijack this thread or be so wordy.
The good news is that a new 1.1 version is on the way, and it should be worth the wait and better than we expected. My thanks again to Aero and all the developers and contributors for their hard work and all the good tools and renditions ahead. Inkscape brings joy to a lot of us, and for some, even $$$. Much appreciated.

Could you please just delete zoner-draw.xml in your release candidate install folder. (This should force Inkscape to use the default settings in preferences) \inkscape-1.1-rc-x64\inkscape\share\inkscape\keys\zoner-draw.xml
I am trying to test the Linux Appimage version of 1.1 Release Candidate, in particular the Export/Plot extension, on Ubuntu 20.04.02, but when I try to plot I get an error message which ends with "DependencyError: pySerial is required to open serial ports". I have tried installing pySerial on my system but get the same message. Is this because pySerial needs to be in the Appimage? Is there another way of installing 1.1 Release Candidate in Ubuntu so I can test the plotting extension? If there is, is anyone able to help with newbie friendly instructions on how to do it?

Works here in Windows 10. Did you try resetting your keyboard shortcuts in Preferences?
Hi, Aero. No keybord shortcuts were altered. Thank you.

I will do that and report back later today. Thank you again for your help, Aero.
