Ok, I have the same problem, while using 1.2.1 version on Windows. It's really important to me, because I use layers with bitmaps in them, and I can't do blend modes with bitmaps if I simply go in the "Fill/Stroke dialog".
In the attached file I put an example of the working thing, while using a 1.1 Portable version.
EDIT: sorry, the image I attached is very unclear. I attached another more clear one.
I now have the same issue as Andrea P. I use a top layer in many pieces called "Noise Overlay", which contains either a bitmap or object with the necessary noise. Then I was able to set the layer's blend mode to allow that noise to affect the whole piece.
Does this change mean that is now not possible? That's a pain. I don't want to have to set each object to have the noise separately.
Hiding an important layer option in the fill & stroke dialog is in my eyes anything but a good idea. Hope it will come back to the layyers panel in next version.
Hi all,
for this project I'm designing I want to have a rectangle use a blend mode.
I moved the rectangle to it's own layer but when I try to change the blend mode I can't as the dropdown menu is disabled.
Oddly enough, this is the same for the blur % slider, but opacity does work correctly.
Attached is a screenshot of the layers panel, hope someone can help me understand why these controls could be disabled.
Just to add, the blend mode in the fill and stroke panel does work as expected, and I can select an object's blur + blend mode there. 🤷
Works here under macOS:
In new 1.2 version there is no any slider or dropdown menu for layers panel. How to use this option now?
Users are advised to use the Fill/Stroke dialog for layer blend/blur/opacity.
Oh, thanks!) It works 😁

Why was this change made?
It will be back, but maybe not until March '23 v1.3 release.

Fantastic news.
/me patiently wait for the new release.
If there is a interim release due to a critical bug, it may arrive sooner (but we'll just have to wait and see).
Am i using an different version of Inkscape?
Choose a layer in the objects panel, go to fill an stroke an change blend mode ...
Works perfectly for me.

Hi InkJack,
I just tried what you did, and it's working for me too. I must have been confused - previously the blend mode was shown in the Layers dialog.
I did the following
Exactly what I want. Thanks for correcting me!
You're welcome ...
