I'm new to Inkscape and am having trouble with the Path's Trace Bitmap tool. When I select a picture and use the Multiple Scans section, I select 8 layers, click what I want on the bottom row and nothing happens. If I repeat this action two or three times the preview will never come up in the window and I click OK. When I try to separate the color picture from the black and white picture I only have the original. is this a bug in 1.0?
Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.
Have the same issue as described above. In the previous (before 1.0) version of Inkscape the bitmap trace worked 100% of the time. With the 1.0 version it has yet to work. I have a mid 2015 MacBookPro running High Sierra. The image seems to import, I chose multiple scans, remove background, update and OK . . . ZIP
I can't get trace bitmap to work either. It worked before with 1.0 but opened it up and today it won't trace no matter how many different settings I try.
i just picked inkscape back up after a long hiatus and found the bitmap trace wouldn't work at all on mac os x.
Like no combination of settings would do anything except yield a white preview or occasionally, a black square.
it just occurred to me that it's b/c all the images i was working on are noun project icons w/ a monochrome shape on a transparent background, so i tried a version without transparency and it worked!
just throwing this out there.. any shot you're working w/ transparent images and confounding the issue by chance?
[Windows 10] I converted my PNG from Windows Snipping Tool to bitmap without any possible transparency issues and the TraceBitmap Window did not want to open on version 0.9.2. On 1.1.1 it works perfectly - issue is one of the other extensions doesn't work on the newer version of InkScape.
I don´t see an issue with 1 color PNGs+alpha channel except you need to use "Multiple Scans/Colors" with the minimum of 2 Scans, enable "Remove background" - Apply - done.

Welcome to the forums Shawn.
So far other users have reported that this functionality works. Were you able to figure out how to use the tracing functionality?
Hi Shawn.
Your image is selected and you have checked the preview by clicking the Update-button already?

downoloaded 1.0.2 - and it works again. However there was nothing in the updates for 1.0.2 for trace bitmap. I assume it was just a random bug
It does not work on 1.1* but it worked on 0.9.2*. I removed 1.1 and tried to install 0.9.2* but 1.1.* installed again. I have Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS
Thank you
