I'm new to graphic design and inkscape and I'm currently designing a sign for the front of my business premises. I'm aware that SVG files will scale infinitely without loss of quality, but I'm wondering how things work in relation to dimensions/aspect ratio etc. Let's say I want my sign eventually to print 3x1 feet in the real world - what kind of settings do I need to change and be aware of in inkscape so that my sign will print at the correct proportions when I send it to the printers? Thanks for your help!
I'm not a graphic designer. I've had several banners printed and I just set the dimensions for what ever you were going to print @300dpi. If you want your graphic to be 3' x 1', then size your Inkscape file to 3' x 1' @300dpi. Then I convert it to a PDF because that's what my printer wants.
Hi all, I am new to this forum. Happy to share one of my experiences I had last week.
My friend John is starting a new business next month. He had a lot of works to complete before his business get started. So I took the responsibility of taking the print out of all his signs and posters.
When I take a printout on my home printer, it never gives the best result. I choose one of the best printing centers for taking the printouts and become very happy to see the sign of the business service printed perfectly. When I enquired about the proportions that we should change before printing signs, the man in the shop explained how to set the size to 3' x 1' @ 300 dpi and convert the file to pdf.He also suggested me to use inks cape graphic editor that they use in their shop,Β to get a better result.
I tried with inks cape at my home, and then I got a better result.
