Hi to all guys, I'm Max, i would like to ask you if is there a way to create a new predefined outline style for hatching ? I would need one where the line or curvilinear is dashed with small segments in each hatch (not sure if I explained this well). I've a sample in the attachment. Thank you

    I would :

    1. First draw one curved path, with start and end nodes horizontally aligned and drag handles of this start / end nodes horizontally (so that, once turned into pattern, it will look seamless). Set stroke caps to square (for correct visual aspect of the pattern with no empty spaces).
    2. Add the small segments (another way would be to use pattern along path applied to the step 1 path).
    3. repeat 1 & 2 to create a few lines, depending on the result you want. All the lines must have start nodes vertically aligned and end nodes vertically aligned (use a grid or guides eventually).
    4. Group all. Clone this group.
    5. Turn the clone into pattern and adjust lines in the orginal group to get the best visual result.

You can also use the seamless pattern template (I'm to dummy to use it correctly).

If you're really proud of your pattern(s), copy an object filled with this (theses) pattern(s) to a new svg file, that will be saved in the dedicated folder in inkscape (open global preferences, browse to System and find the Paint Servers Folder).

Another associated idea could be to use the Ruler extension. Look here to see if it is useful. (You can add or exclude subdivisions and vary their individual lengths.)

My apologies for misunderstanding your question. I understood you were willing to draw a pattern with such lines. I saw in another topic this was to design marine charts or something alike.

If your goal is to draw rocky reefs, here is the way I did it for personal work.

Additional trick that may be useful, from a brillant idea read in this forum, how to design easily dotted stroke. 0 is the length of dash, 3 is the interval between dashes.

Use and overuse Copy / Paste Style (Ctrl+ shift + V).
