Tyler, How can I ever thank you enough. With your encouragement and solution hints, i began to appreciate what i had to do to achieve my goal.
Never would i have achieved my result without you. if you would like to see it and maybe pass on some suggestios, I welcome that opportunity.
I have no idea how to clip my file in thhis messaging system..
Now regarding your suggestion so i can obtain a proper text output. (text character forms but is not in the place where i put the text in my Inkscape displayed drawing)
You suggested i put my svg file in a program and convert to pdf. what free program does that conversion for me? I am assusming the command, convert text to paths, is
in the pdf conversion program, not in inkscape. In Inkscape, i find in the text tab, "put on path". in the path tab i find the "stroke to path" but i did not find the phrase "convert text to path"
Found the phrase text to path. thank you.
now i hope once that is done, the svg file will convert to pdf
unfortunately, select text (not all) fails to display properly, The characters are correctly formed but the spacing is not as I directed and saw in Inkcape application.
I tried Tyler's suggestion. I found the layer with the text of concern. That layer acts as a "group" and assembles the text as one entity even though they are on their own two layers below..
Acting on each of the text objects, I went to text-> put on path. and saved the file. i even tried putting the layer, which grouped the two layers below, "on path".
No difference. the text spacing continues to fail to replicate the text spacing as seen within InkScape. Please help.me.
I don't usually export to pdf. What I do is export the entire artwork (including text) as a png file with good resolution (usually 200 dpi does the trick). So I go into Word and import the png image... and from there I export it as a pdf.
PNG and other raster formats do not maintain the crisp geometry of vectors and I would avoid.
I would not convert the text to paths within Inkscape. When using Save a copy, the filetype PDF is one of the choices at the bottom of the dialog. Once that selection is confirmed, another dialog will appear and the option to convert the texts to paths is available.
Converting to text in this dialog will not disturb the text in the svg document so it can still be edited.
Conversion to PDF is generally bulletproof, and every print shop in the world can print easily with precision with PDF.
I finally am happy with my creation. Alot to learn in Inkscape.
But now I want to print the creation.
i brought it to Staples, but there was a distortion with only one layer (of text) among all the other layers. There are alot.
So i came home. i ask the Inkscape application to present my creation. It does so perfectly.
But if i save it to my desktop or thumbdrive, the distortion appears to exist just as it did at Staples. It is repeatable.
Pleasa help me find a way to transport my creation as seen in the application to a file format that others can print.
I would Save a Copy as PDF and in the save dialog, tick the convert text to paths. If the PDF looks correct, the print shop should have no issues.
