Beginners' Questions How to do multiple stitches per segment?

Hi all:  I purchased an SVG from an online source today to try to understand how it is done.  The SVG has flowers with petals and also leaves that are entirely made from strokes with no fill.  Upon analyzing the stitching using the Simulator/Realistic Preview function of Inksketch, I can see that "each segment between two nodes" is stitched 5 times back and forth before moving on to the next pair of nodes.  The operation is repeated for each pair of nodes and the result ends up looking like handmade embroidery.  I like that effect but can't figure out how I would achieve that in my own design.

Does Inkscape have a function that would allow me to stitch back and forth between each pair of nodes like I see this purchased SVG do? Or...is that a function that is entirely in the realm of the Inkstitch extension.  I can't find anything within Inkstitch that would allow me to do that.

I'm attaching a closeup of a section of a leaf composed of just a few zigzag nodes.

OK, sorry for my incorrect assumption.  Further analysis shows me that a segment between a pair of nodes actually consists of 5 actual segments and what appear to be single nodes are actually 5 nodes stacked one on top of the other.  So when the program renders the embroidery I can see that each segment between two nodes is traversed 5 times before going on to the next pair of nodes.

So now that I understand what was done to create the file my question is....   How does one draw something like this?  I tried drawing something similar but when I use the straight line tool (B) I only see an actual node on the first node that I click on but then successive nodes do not show up as nodes so when I go back to click on the same spot no snapping occurs.  Since no snapping occurs (because there is no actual node at that location to snap to), how do I get all 5 nodes to snap to the same location so that it looks like a single line connecting two nodes?  The only way that each stopping point (node) can be shown for a path that contains multiple nodes is to wait until I'm done creating the multi-node path, but that would be after the fact, and then moving 4 of the nodes to match up with the 5th node.  How can I make the nodes (or future nodes) coincide as I'm creating them without having to do that after the fact?

I hope my explanation is clear enough.

    Hi Heurtaaj,

It took me a while, but I think you can do what you want by using a grid.
You do this in the Documentsettings Ctrl+Shift+D.
Click on the New button to create a grid and adjust the settings to what you like.

And then you enable snap to grid.
Now the pen tool snaps to the crosses of the grid, although you cannot see the nodes in realtime.

When you draw and you go back to the first node, the path closes.
So that is something to keep in mind. Just draw a first node that you do not need.
You can delete that node later.

Hi Kirstie:  Good suggestion,  I'll give it a try.  I should have thought of that myself but sometimes there are too many trees to see the forest.

    Thanks!
