Beginners' Questions Copy, Move An Object, And Then Repeat

Is it possible to copy, move an object, and then repeat the operation over and over. I’ve had some luck dragging the object and pressing the spacebar a different locations, which leaves a copy of the object at each location. Using the spacebar seems to lack precision, unless I’m missing something.

    Hi Gyrocam,
There is a handy menu for that. Press Ctrl+Shift+A. It is the Align and Distribute panel.

You can also use a grid and then activate snapping (shortcut %). Press some buttons and play with it. Then the spacebar action snaps to the grid.
This tutorial makes snap to grid clear: http://goinkscape.com/how-to-draw-pixel-art-in-inkscape/

Thank you. I will experiment with Align and Distribute. That's a neat tutorial. I can see where that would be useful.

Edit: I've found some information on "Create Tile Clones..." under the "Edit > Clones" menu. There are a many steps involved but this does what i was after. In a single operation, one can move, scale, rotate (and more) each copy or clone with this tool.

    Hi Gyrocam,
Yes, that is another possibility. I did not suggest it, because it is not so simple.
Good luck with it! If you edit the original path, all the clones will be updated too. That is very neat!
