Beginners' Questions Copy leaf(object) nose to tail along path

I have created an object and wish place it nose to tail along a path but cannot get pattern to conform. I have used the path scatter effect and get the following (see file). I have tried manipulating the spacing but still cannot get effect. The file attached is typical of the result I am getting. The object is not a single path so  pattern along path not working

It seems the elements are all wearing the same attributes - so there´s nothing hindering from combining the parts into one - which let´s you start using Pattern-Along-Path right away:

Hi PP thanks again for your help. I used the combined function from the path drop down menu then did pattern along path from path effect folder then copied the leaf to clip board and applied it.

The results are a big improvement but still not nose to tail as per your example. Do I have to manipulate a parameter so they arrange nose to tail?

Grab the node tool and find at the upper left corner of the canvas the origin object - now select all points  click one point again to go into rotation mode and adjust the rotation till  start+end point meet.

    Hi PP

Sorry to be a bit dim on this, the operation that you are describing is this the original leaf that I copied to the clipboard or one of the leaf patterns generated along the path. If I apply the node tool to the original leaf pattern I can get the nodes to show but then clicking on one of the identified nodes does not bring up the rotation box. Also not sure what you mean by the upper left of the canvas, is this the whole page or the upper left of the bounding box for the leaf?

To bring up the rotate and skew handles when using the Node tool, make sure the "Show transformation handles for selected nodes" button is toggled on (it's the third from the right on the tool control bar when the Node tool is selected). The transformation handles can sometimes get in the way when working with nodes, hence they can be toggled on and off.

PP again thanks for the prompt reply

The animation is great and makes sense the only issue I have is which button are you pressing to bring up the nodes in the blue copy as I cannot get them to activate

I can get to the stage where the path and the blue object are showing but cannot get the nodes to show file attached shows where i have got to.

PP again thank you every thing working fine. This approach certainly gives a huge amount of control
